Introduction Studies which focus on early childhood programs in the United States have highlighted the benefits for students who participate in these programs. Some of these programs include Head Start, the Perry Preschool Project, the Prenatal Early Infancy Project, the Abecedarian Early Childhood Intervention, and the Chicago Child-Parent Center Program. Research related to these programs has demonstrated that children who participated were more successful in school and life, than those children who had not had the benefit of such participation. This paper will address some of the literature about the success of early childhood programs but also some major components which will challenge educators to continue to produce programs that are not only successful but also culturally sensitive.
